Police have said they have lined up over 50 videos as evidence to pin the TikToker who abused the Kabaka of Buganda.
Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga on Monday told journalists that the Crime Intelligence Directorate had arrested Ibrahim Musana, 27 , a resident of Kauga in Mukono following a series of reported hate crimes, incitement of violence, defamation and offensive communication.
“He committed the offences through various digital platforms of TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and Whatsapp, against the Kabaka of Buganda, the Katikkiro of Buganda and Buganda Kingdom at large,” Enanga said.
He said the suspect who was handed over to the Criminal Investigations Directora, at Kibuli is now being processed for court on various charges of misuse of social media, hate speech, malicious information under the Computer Misuse Act and incitement to violence.
“We have recovered over 50 videos of anti-Kabaka sentiments, that are vulgar, abusive, hostile and defamatory, that we are now transcribing for evidential purposes,” Enanga said.
Going by the moniker, ‘Pressure 24/7’ ,Musana’s videos went viral last week, attracting condemnation from the public.
Speaking on Monday, the police spokesperson said a large section of the people of Buganda and well-wishers were not happy with such negative sentiments ugly speech that is so embarrassing and highly disrespectful of the Kababa of Buganda, the Katikkiro of Buganda and the Buganda Kingdom , prompting them to report.
“As a country, we have very strict rules against incitement to violence, hate speech and offensive communication. We therefore, cannot and will not tolerate violence incited and motivated by hate speech, due to the devastation and unrest, it can cause our communities.”
“As the joint security agencies, we shall therefore, use every tool and resource at our disposal to combat bias motivated violence and all its forms, not only against the Kabaka of Buganda, but also against any other Uganda or visitor in the country.”
Enanga warned perpetrators of hateful ideology, that they will be caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
