A total of 88,269 candidates have been advised to repeat Primary seven this year after failing Primary Leaving Examinations for 2023.
According to the results released on Thursday afternoon, of the 749,347 pupils who sat PLE last year, 38346 male candidates representing 10.72% got division u whereas 49926 girls representing 12.75% got the same grade.
UNEB Executive Director, Dan Odongo said the candidates who failed represented 10.4% of the total candidates who sat for PLE in 2023.
UNEB said districts like Kibuku(31.5%), Madi Okollo( 31.5%), Dokolo(28.9%), Kween(28.4% and Namisindwa(28.9%) had failure rates higher than the national average of 10.4%.
The number of candidates who failed in 2023 according to UNE results is higher than the one for 2022 which was at 811810.
“Division U is awarded to candidates who have failed to reach the minimum level of performance that can be awarded at least a division four Therefore, these learners are no eligible for admission to the senior one class,” UNEB Executive Director, Dan Odongo said.
