David William Magezi , 27, has officially announced his candidacy for Uganda’s 2026 presidential elections.
His campaign is driven by the slogan: “Rise With Us Make Uganda the Pearl Again” (MUPA Campaign).
Speaking at a press conference, the former MUBS 27th Guild Electoral Commission Chairperson, shared his vision for Uganda, emphasizing a focus on tackling corruption, creating job opportunities for the youth, and promoting transparency and accountability in governance.
“Uganda is rich in resources and talent, yet corruption and poor leadership have left our people struggling,” Magezi stated.
Magezi emphasized that Uganda, being a young country with a large youth population, needs a government that works for everyone, not just for individuals.
“We need a government that works for everyone, not just a few at the top. My leadership will bring accountability and economic empowerment,” he noted.
As a young man who has just completed his studies, Magezi was asked by journalists about the funding for his campaign.
He revealed that his 13,000-strong base of fellow graduates would fund the campaign, with each contributing shs20,000. He stated that this funding would help him mobilize grassroots support across the country.
“This funding is enough to reach every village, every district, and every Ugandan who seeks real change,” Magezi said.
During the declaration press conference, journalists questioned Magezi about allegations that he was being sponsored by the State House to weaken the opposition, particularly the National Unity Platform (NUP). In response, he firmly denied the claims.
Magezi’s animated speaking style and humorous rhetoric have drawn comparisons to former presidential candidate John Katumba, who captured public attention in the 2021 elections with his youthful enthusiasm and unfiltered speech.
While some Ugandans admire Magezi’s boldness, others question whether he is a serious contender or just another fleeting political figure.
